Serum-free Cell Freezing Medium

  • The designated freezing medium for mesenchymal stem cells supports cryopreservation at a high density of 2x10⁷mL, and the cryopreservation density is 10 folds that of the conventional freezing medium for serums. 

 
  • No serum components are added, hence ensuring higher safety profile. It is ready to use, and can be stored stably at 2-8℃. 

 
  • It requires no programmed cooling, and it can be directly placed at -80° C, and after 12 h, it can be directly placed in liquid nitrogen for long-term frozen storage. The cell viability and thawed rate are both greater than 90%.

Working Principle

Intracellular Protection: Some cryoprotectants effectively penetrate the cell membrane and enter the cell interior. By lowering the freezing point and increasing the viscosity of the intracellular fluid, they inhibit the formation of intracellular ice crystals, thereby preventing physical damage to cellular structures by ice crystals.

Extracellular Protection: Other cryoprotectants do not enter the cells but preferentially bind to extracellular water molecules before ice crystal formation. This reduces the electrolyte concentration of the extracellular solution and decreases the number of cations entering the cells, thereby mitigating osmotic shock and damage caused by cell dehydration.
